Green Bay Sweeps Oakland, Readies for #HLVB Semifinal Matchup with Milwaukee

DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The No. 3 seeded Green Bay volleyball team (21-8, 12-4 HL) swept No. 6 seeded Oakland in the Horizon League Tournament Quarterfinals this afternoon (25-18, 25-11, 25-20).

Green Bay 3, Oakland 0
The defending-champions looked poised in their quarterfinal matchup today.  Overall, the Phoenix hit .319 on the afternoon and only committed a total of 10 attack-errors for the match.  Junior Taylor Wolf logged 17 kills while hitting an absurd .536 percentage.  Junior Ashley Sledge and sophomore each tallied 10 kills, while junior Kristen Paulus added 8 as well.  Senior setter Maddie Yoss recorded 38 of the team's 47 assist.  Six different members of the Phoenix contributed kills.

Defensively, eight members of the squad logged digs during the match, with freshman libero Annelise Sparks leading with 18.  Taylor Wolf followed with 15 to capture a double-double, while Maddie Yoss owned 10 herself to also earn a double-double.  Overall, the Phoenix had 4 total-blocks.

The Phoenix opened set one (25-18) up 4-0 and never trailed to take the 1-0 lead in the match.  Oakland took their first timeout with the squad up 10-5.  Later in the set, the No. 6 seed needed to use their second timeout with Green Bay leading 18-11.  The Golden Grizzlies made things a little interesting following, but the Phoenix closed the set out comfortably.  Five different members recorded kills for Green Bay.

Set two (25-11) saw Oakland jump out to an early 4-1 lead but Green Bay wasn't rattled.  The squad knotted the set up at 6-6 and the Golden Grizzlies were forced to take their first timeout with the Phoenix up 8-6.  It wasn't much longer before Oakland was forced to take their second timeout after a kill from Shannon Coughlin put the score at 11-6.  Following the timeout, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run to seize control of the set.  Taylor Wolf tallied the kill on set point to give the team the 2-0 lead.

Set three (25-20) saw Green Bay claim the set and the match.  The two teams were tied at 3-3 when a 4-0 run by the Phoenix forced the Golden Grizzlies to take their first timeout.  At the midway point, the squad was still in control at 13-8.  Nonetheless, Oakland began to chip away at the Phoenix lead and Coach Sutherland took a timeout with the score at 14-12.  With the score at 15-15, back-to-back kills from Kristen Paulus, plus a kill from Ashley Sledge forced Oakland to take their second timeout.  Once again, Taylor Wolf took home the kill on match point to earn Green Bay a trip to the semifinals.

Two individual milestones were achieved this afternoon as well for the Phoenix.  Taylor Wolf recorded her 1,000 digs for her career.  Additionally, Maddie Yoss logged her 5,000 career-assists during the match, to become only the second player in program history to reach that mark.
