GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Phoenix was held to a season low on Tuesday night as Marquette claimed only its third victory in the all-time series while visiting Green Bay, 60-47.
The Golden Eagles connected on a season-best 11 three-pointers while shooting 44.7 percent (21-47) from the floor.
The Phoenix played from behind the entire matchup after Marquette raced out to an 8-0 lead and never looked back. A triple from
Frankie Wurtz made it a two-possession game at the start of the third, 23-19, but a 12-0 run from the visitors placed GB at a 16-point disadvantage with only 15 minutes to play.
Back-to-back triples from
Anna Dier and Wurtz got the Phoenix to within nine points at 50-41 with 5:14 remaining. A 10-2 run fueled by a pair of three-pointers for MU stole the momentum and put the game out of range for GB with just over a minute remaining, as the Golden Eagles sealed a 60-47 victory.
GB stills owns a substantial advantage in the all-time series with Marquette at 35-10, but the Golden Eagles have claimed wins in the last two matchups.
Wurtz led the Phoenix with 13 points in 38 minutes, while
Karly Murphy added 10.
Junior guard Selena Lott had 18 points and 9 assists for Marquette, which had four players finish with 10 or more points.
The Phoenix now heads to Chicago State for a pairing in the Windy City on Saturday, with tip-off slated for 2 p.m. at the Jones Convocation Center. Green Bay's next home game is Dec. 7 against DePaul.
