GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The Green Bay men's soccer team won an overtime thriller on Tuesday night at Aldo Santaga Stadium, as
Michael Carreon headed in the game-winning goal in the 92nd minute of play to defeat Eastern Illinois, 2-1.
The game was scoreless for the first 86 minutes, but a header from
Robleh Omar broke the tie and granted the Phoenix a 1-0 advantage with only minutes remaining.
The Panthers responded moments later, when Maxwell Allen collected a rebound and found the back of the net to knot things with less than two minutes remaining.
Green Bay wasted no time in the first overtime period, as
Michael Carreon headed a perfect ball to the far post from
Ethan Hoard and beat the keeper, scoring his second-consecutive game-winning goal for the Phoenix.
Green Bay owned a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
The Phoenix will now shift its focus to the Horizon League Tournament, as the team prepares to host a quarterfinal at Aldo Santaga Stadium on Monday.
