Green Bay Advances to Horizon League Tournament Championship with Win Over No. 3 Youngstown State

DETROIT (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- No. 2 Green Bay prevailed over No. 3 Youngstown State in the semifinals round of the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship on Monday afternoon, taking down the Penguins 55-53 to advance to the program's 10th-consecutive Horizon League Tournament Championship.

Green Bay worked out to an early lead in the matchup, constructing an advantage as large as 13 points with 2:39 to play in the second quarter. Hot shooting beyond the arc from Youngstown State continued to chip at the Phoenix lead, as the Penguins buried 13 three-pointers in the game.

The game was tied entering the fourth quarter of play, where Laken James used a three-pointer on GB's first possession to regain the lead. The game continued to be a back-and-forth battle, as the score saw its final tie at 50-50 with 2:37 to play. A jumper from Jen Wellnitz collected Green Bay and advantage it would not relinquish the remainder of the game, as the Phoenix held on to win 55-53.

The Phoenix will face No. 1 Wright State in the 2019 Little Caesars Horizon League Women's Basketball Championship game tomorrow at 11 a.m. (CT). The game will be televised on ESPNU and Green Bay Distillery, The Bar locations, Hagemeister Park and Graystone Ale House will be showing the game for fans interested in cheering on the Phoenix from Green Bay.
