Green Bay Downs Akron, Falls to UT Martin on Second Day of Skyhawk Classic

MARTIN, Tenn. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- The Green Bay softball team earned a split on the second day of the Skyhawk Classic, taking Down Akron to start things off, 7-5, before later falling to host UT Martin, 5-3

Green Bay 7, Akron 5
Brittany Baneck earned her first win of the 2019 campaign in Green Bay's morning action against Akron, dealing for six innings while allowing only five hits and one earned run. Baneck struck out three batters in GB's 7-5 victory before Kayla Schwebke came on in relief in the seventh to pick up the save.

Green Bay totaled eight hits in the matchup, highlighted by a 2-for-3 performance at the plate from Emily Madeiros who also collected a pair of RBIs. Seven different members of the squad notched hits in the game.

Akron amassed nine hits in the game, but was held to only three runs through the first six innings of play. The Zips made things interesting in the final inning, however, scoring two runs with two outs to cut the deficit in half and bring the game-tying run to the plate. GB's defense held strong and forced the game-clinching out to pick up a 7-5 win.

UTM 5, Green Bay 3
The Phoenix took the diamond against UT Martin for the third time in two days in its evening matchup, but the result was the same as the first two meetings. The Skyhawks completed the sweep of Green Bay with a 5-3 win after battling back from down 2-0.

Kalyssa Koehn hit a home run to left field to give Green Bay and advantage early, but four unanswered runs from UTM proved to be the difference the Skyhawks needed. Green Bay added another run in the sixth, but it was later matched in the bottom of the inning to diminish Green Bay's hopes of a comeback.

Green Bay will be back in action tomorrow, taking the diamond at 10 a.m. against Akron to wrap up action in the Skyhawk Classic.
