Green Bay Drops Doubleheader at Kansas on Friday Night

LAWRENCE, Kan. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay dropped its doubleheader at Kansas on Friday, falling 9-0 in five innings to open the day before nearly picking up the win in game two, with the Jayhawks eventually holding out for a 5-4 victory.

Kansas was on the board for the first time in the second inning of game one, scoring its first run after a sacrifice-fly to right field. The Jayhawks followed the at-bat with a single through the left side to make it a 2-0 game.

Kansas added another run in the third frame after a double to center field, before adding six runs in the fourth inning after a pair of home runs, one of which was a grand slam, to defeat the Phoenix 9-0 in five innings.

Kansas jumped out to an early lead once again in the second game of the day, plating one run in each of the first three innings.

The Jayhawks scored two more in the fifth inning to increase its lead to five runs, but the Phoenix erupted for four runs in the sixth inning to cut its deficit to one.

Green Bay was unable to pull even in the final frame, falling 5-4 to Kansas in game two.

The Phoenix tallied five hits in the matchup, all of which came from different members of the team. Greta Thompson was in the circle for GB and struck out one batter while allowing four earned runs against the Jayhawks in 6.0 innings.

Green Bay returns to the diamond tomorrow at noon to wrap up the series with the Jayhawks.
