DENMARK, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay earned it first shutout of the season in its series-sweeping win over IUPUI on Wednesday aftenoon at Circle Tap, defeating the Jaguars 7-0 behind a strong effort from
Kayla Schwebke in the circle.
Green Bay 7, IUPUI 0
Green Bay's sweep over IUPUI marks the first Horizon League sweep for the Phoenix since the 2016 season when GB defeated Detroit Mercy in three-consecutive contests. Green Bay now moves to 4-5 in league play and sits in sole possession of sixth place.
The first two frames were scoreless for both squads, but the Phoenix erupted for four runs in the third inning due in large part to a three-run home run from
Kalyssa Koehn, her third of the season.
The fourth and fifth provided no offense once again for the two teams, but GB added a trio of insurance runs in the sixth inning after a RBI hits from
Emily Madeiros and
Morgan Bihun.
Green Bay's seven-run lead wasn't lowered in IUPUI's final plate appearances, as Green Bay held on for the 7-0 shutout victory to sweep the Jaguars.
Tiffany Giese turned in a perfect 2-for-2 performance at the plate for the Phoenix, while
Samantha Soley, Madeiros, Koehn and Bihun provided RBIs for the offense.
Schwebke improved to 7-6 on the season with the win, allowing only four hits while striking out four batters in the process.
Green Bay will be back in action on Friday as the team heads to Highland Heights, Ky., to open a three-game series with Northern Kentucky.
