HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay opened a three-game series at Northern Kentucky with a single game on Friday afternoon, with NKU picking up the victory to secure its first win at home of the 2019 season. The Norse move to 12-21 overall and 5-4 in Horizon League play while the Phoenix drops to 9-18 (4-6 HL).

Green Bay took an early lead in the third inning with what would be its only runs of the game, using a two-RBI single from
Alyssa Brewer knocked in
Bailey Schultz and
Tiffany Giese to take the game's first advantage.
The rest of the offensive production on the day belonged to the hosts, with Northern Kentucky pulling even with GB in the following inning after a single to center field and and a fielder's choice plated a pair of Norse runs.
NKU added two runs in the fifth and two runs in the sixth on its way to a 6-2 win in the series opener. Northern Kentucky owned a 10-7 advantage in hits, with three Norse posting a multi-hit performance. Giese and
Morgan Bihun each notched two hits in the matchup for the Phoenix.
Kayla Schwebke opened the series for Green Bay, pitching 6.0 innings while allowing 10 hits, four earned runs and striking out three batters.
Green Bay will be back in action tomorrow as the team wraps up its series against NKU with a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m.
