GREEN BAY (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – Green Bay fell on Saturday afternoon in a doubleheader with Detroit Mercy at Circle Tap, allowing the Titans to take the day and the series, 2-1. Green Bay was shutout in the first game of the day, 2-0, before suffering a loss in the series finale after a later rally fell short, 6-4.
Detroit Mercy 2, Green Bay 0
Green Bay amassed only two hits in the first game of the day, with Kalyssa Koehn and Tiffany Giese both earning base hits.
Liz Murphy was in the circle for Detroit Mercy and threw the shutout for the Titans, allowing only two hits and striking out seven in the process.
Kayla Schwebke pitched all 7.0 innings for the Phoenix, collecting eight strike outs while allowing seven hits and a pair of runs.
Detroit split the series after two games with a shutout, 2-0, victory as the teams prepared for the series finale.
Detroit Mercy 6, Green Bay 4
Detroit Mercy scored four runs in the opening frame to grant the Titans a strong advantage in the early going.
Green Bay chipped away at the Titans lead, putting a run on the board in the bottom of the first and two runs in the bottom of the second, making the score 4-3.
Alyssa Brewer and
Jenna Smarzinski each notched RBIs in the matchup, as GB totaled seven hits.
Morgan Bihun provided the only multi-hit game for Green Bay, finishing 2-for-2 at the plate with one walk while scoring one run.
The Phoenix was unable to knot the game at six with its final plate appearances, falling 6-4 to UDM in the series finale.
The Phoenix will travel to Chicago, Ill., on Tuesday for a three-game series with UIC.
