GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay volleyball team followed up their win this morning with another victory tonight against Ohio. The Phoenix defeated the Huskies 3-1, (25-18, 27-25, 18-25, 25-17).
Green Bay 3, Ohio 1
Green Bay looked solid in their second match of the season against Ohio. Both sides were even in total-attacks (150), but the Phoenix's hitting percentage of .240 proved to be the difference compared to the Bobcats .167. Junior
Taylor Wolf recorded her first double-double of the season with 17 kills and 12 digs. Sophomore
Shannon Coughlin had another impressive outing for the Phoenix, contributing 13 kills, which is a career high. Senior
Maddie Yoss was one dig away from having a double-double herself, but logged 42 of the 52 assist for the match.
Set one (25-18) saw the Phoenix produce a notable hitting percentage of .308.
Taylor Wolf had 7 kills alone to propel Green Bay in set one. However, six different member of the Phoenix recorded a kill during the set.
Set two (27-25) was close throughout and saw the Bobcats earn 17 kills compared to Green Bay's 13. Yet, Ohio's recorded 13 errors during the set, while Green Bay only had 7, which helped the Phoenix take the set.
Set three (18-25) went the way of the Bobcats. Green Bay had a low hitting percentage of .158 and only had 9 kills. On the other hand, Ohio's efficiency on offense was the reason they took home the third set, with 4 more kills than the Phoenix, and a hitting percentage of .282 compared the Green Bay's .158.
Set four (25-17) saw Green Bay retake control of match. Both
Taylor Wolf and
Shannon Coughlin had 4 kills during the set, and Junior
Ashley Sledge logged 3 of her own.
Defensively, Green Bay recorded 60 digs, with three members of squad recording double digits. Freshman libero
Brenna Hesse led the Phoenix with 13, and senior defensive specialist
Emily Lautenschlager had 10 as well. The Phoenix also had 16 block-assist in the match, and a 9 total team-blocks.
Coach Sutherland's thought after the first two matches of the season: "I felt we got better today, and most importantly we played as a team. We worked through some struggles, but we look at those in a positive manner in that all the difficulties we through together are good for us. I truly believe the team has bought into that."
"I'm also very proud of the team for standing tall and for understanding that the adjustments we made were for the betterment of the team. All of these things combined not only helped us improve today but prepare for Fresno State moving forward tomorrow night."

The Phoenix host Fresno State tomorrow evening (August 31
st) at 6:00 p.m. CT in their third game of the GBD Invite.
