GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) ---The Green Bay volleyball team won their first match of the NDSU Classic with a 3-0 (25-23, 25-17, 25-20) sweep of Buffalo. The Phoenix is now off to a 7-1 start on the season, which ties the 2016 team for the best start in program history.

The Phoenix continues their exciting start to the season with a convincing victory over Buffalo. The squad was solid on both sides of the net tonight earning 25 more kills and 17 more digs than the Bulls. Junior
Taylor Wolf led the team in points with 23.5 and recorded 21 kills, 9 digs, and 2 aces. Sophomore
Shannon Coughlin was the other Phoenix to log double-digit kills with 12 and had a .346 hitting percentage on the evening. Freshman
Zoi Sherolli and Junior
Anna Eaton each contributed 6 kills for Green Bay as well, with Sherolli's being a career-high. Senior setter
Maddie Yoss finished with 40 of the teams 45 assist and also logged the only double-double for the Phoenix, adding 12 digs also.
Set one (25-23) was a grinder between the Phoenix and Bulls. Green Bay went on a 4-0 run to take their first lead at 11-10 off a kill from Zoi Sherrolli. The lead grew as high as 21-16, but the Bulls wouldn't go away, eventually tying things up. Nonetheless, the squad closed the set with a 3-0 run, which was capped off with an ace from senior
Emily Lautenschlager. Six different players contributed kills, with
Taylor Wolf leading with 8 of her own, while the team also had 4 aces in the set.
Set two (25-17) had Green Bay cruise to claim the set. The Phoenix soared to a 6-0 lead with
Maddie Yoss recording a pair of aces during the early run. The Bulls did get within two point of Green Bay, but the team continuously grew the lead back and took set two comfortably.
Set three (25-20) saw the Phoenix take home the victory. Green Bay scored the first four points to open up and even grew the lead to as much as six during the course of the set. Buffalo closed the gap throughout and eventually tied the set at 19-19. The Phoenix then went on a 4-0 run off some impressive serving from freshman
Brenna Hesse and kills from
Taylor Wolf and
Maddie Yoss to take the lead 23-19.
Shannon Coughlin and
Anna Eaton tallied back-to-back kills for the team after a Buffalo point to clinch the set and the win.
Green Bay was led defensively by libero
Brenna Hesse, who tallied a team-high 15 digs for the match. Zoi Sherrolli added a career-high 8 digs, while
Emily Lautenschlager contributed 6 as well. As a team, the Phoenix totalled 5 blocks, with
Maddie Yoss leading the way with 4 block-assist.

The Phoenix concludes the NDSU Classic tomorrow evening (September 14
st) at 5:00PM CT against North Dakota State.
