Green Bay Drops First Horizon League Pairing at UIC, 2-0

GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) – The men's soccer team opened Horizon League play at UIC on Saturday night, falling to the the Flames 2-0.

It was a battle between two of the league's top teams, as the Flames are slotted to finish second in the conference and the Phoenix third per the HL preseason poll.

UIC took full advantage of playing at home and jumped out in front early, scoring in the 20th minute after a header off a corner kick snuck past the sure hands of Jamison Yoder.

The rest of the first half and early in the second half consisted of back-and-forth action, but the Flames added a goal in the 76th minute to increase its lead to two with time against Green Bay.

The Phoenix fires five shots and placed one on net but was unable to beat the Flames keeper, falling 2-0 to open league play.

Yoder totaled four saves in the match, as UIC placed six shots on goal out of the 21 attempted.

The Phoenix returns to non-conference play with a mid-week matchup against future Horizon League opponent, Purdue Fort Wayne, on Tuesday in Fort Wayne, Ind.
