Box Score GREEN BAY, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Green Bay women's soccer opened its league season at home on Friday night, falling to Cleveland State 3-0.
The Vikings entered the matchup scoreless in their past four contests but were able to end that streak early, as the visitors found the back of the net in the 24
th minute.
Cleveland State added two more goals in the opening half, piecing together a nice set piece on a free kick which led to a header on the 33
rd minute as well as a long shot in the 42
nd minute which just sailed over the hands of goalkeeper
Courtney Klatt.
Green Bay outshot Cleveland State in the matchup 15-11 but only placed four shots on goal compared to the Vikings' eight. Possession was back and forth all evening, evident by the 4-3 edge held by the Phoenix in corners.
Claudia Janese protected the net in the second half for the Phoenix and held the Vikings scoreless on her watch, notching a pair of saves in the process.
McKayla Kertscher and
Alyssa Barnes each registered four shots in the matchup for GB and placed on shot on the net.
The Phoenix continues Horizon League action next weekend at Detroit Mercy, taking the field against the Titans on Saturday at 6 p.m.
