Green Bay Drops Match Against Northern Iowa

MILWAUKEE, Wis. (GreenBayPhoenix.com)--- The Green Bay volleyball team surrendered their second match of the Hyatt Regency Marquette Invitational with a loss to Northern Iowa (23-25, 23-25, 18-25).

Green Bay 0, Northern Iowa (UNI) 3
Unfortunately, Green Bay let the first two sets slip out of their grasp for UNI to pounce on.  The Phoenix led at some point in all three sets but couldn't quite close any of them out.  Sophomore Alexis Dorner led offensively with 12 kills, while junior Taylor Wolf followed close behind with 11.  Senior setter Maddie Yoss claimed 23 of the squad's 30 assist.  Four other players added kills during the match as well.

Set one (23-25) went the way of the Panthers.  The Phoenix started hot and jumped out to a 6-0 lead behind the stellar serving of Maddie Yoss.  Nonetheless, UNI chipped away to tie things up at 11-11.  The Panthers led by as much as 21-17, but Green Bay went on a 5-0 run to retake the lead at 22-21.  Unfortunately, the small lead was short lived and UNI took the set.  Taylor Wolf and Alexis Dorner each tallied 4 kills, while Zoi Sherolli had 3.

Set two (23-25) was another close set that fell to the Panthers.  The teams traded the lead continuously, but UNI was a little more efficient offensively to edge out Green Bay.  The Phoenix committed 6 more attack-errors and had 9 less kills than the Panthers.  Four different players logged kills for Green Bay and Brenna Hesse claimed 7 digs on the defensive side of the net.

Set three (18-25) saw UNI take the set and the match.  Once again, the Panthers we're more efficient than the Phoenix, which was the difference in the set.  UNI had a hitting percentage of .297 compared to Green Bay's .205, claimed 3 more kills and added 3 aces.

Defensively, freshman libero Brenna Hesse led with 16 digs, with Emily Lautenschlager adding 11 herself.  Additionally, Taylor Wolf contributed 9 digs and Maddie Yoss had 8 also for the Phoenix.  As a team, Green Bay totaled 4 blocks for the match.
