Kevin Borseth Notches 500th Division I Victory as Green Bay Defeats Wright State

DAYTON, Ohio (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- Head coach Kevin Borseth notched his 500th all-time division I victory in Green Bay's win at Wright State, as the Phoenix defeated the Raiders 68-59 to move into a tie for second place in the Horizon League standings.

Frankie Wurtz was on target early to tip off the second half of the league slate, scoring eight of the first nine points for Green Bay and ultimately helping the Phoenix out to an early 11-2 advantage.

Wright State refused to let GB construct too large of a lead and began erasing the deficit, battling back to make it a one-point game as the frame came to a close with the Phoenix leading 17-16.

Wurtz solidified her 17th game of the season scoring in double figures on the opening possession of the second quarter after burying her third triple of the game. The Raiders would score the next seven points to lead for the first time of the evening, 23-20.

The teams would continue to exchange baskets through the remainder of the half, totaling six lead changes in the second frame alone, but the Phoenix would still hold a one-point edge at the break, 32-31.

Green Bay used eight unanswered points over a span of 40 seconds in the third quarter to create the most separation of the game since the opening period, as the Phoenix led 46-39.

The Raiders benefitted from a triple on their final possession from Angel Baker, which would once again make it a one-possession game, with GB leading 48-46 heading into the fourth.

A pair of free throws from Wurtz to put the Phoenix in front, 57-50, with 5:31 remaining brought her total to 20 points for the sixth time this season. Seven of Hailey Oskey's 15 points came in the fourth quarter and helped hold off the Raiders as the Phoenix secured a 68-59 victory.

Although the win was Borseth's 500th as a division I head coach, it was his 725th all time and 413th as the head coach of the Phoenix.

The win moves Green Bay into a tie with Wright State in the Horizon League standings, as both teams sit at 7-3.

Wurtz scored a career-high 27 points in the matchup, highlighted by a 12-15 performance at the free throw line and a team-high three steals in 40 minutes. Madison Wolf posted a double-double for the Phoenix, scoring 10 points and grabbing 12 rebounds in 32 minutes.

Green Bay finishes the weekend on Saturday in Highland Heights, Ky., taking the court at BB&T arena against Northern Kentucky at 1 p.m. (CT).
