Hankerson's Floater, Davis and McCloud Fire Green Bay Past Rival Milwaukee 94-90

MILWAUKEE (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- A floater by Kameron Hankerson in the lane after a nice dish from Josh McNair with less than 20 seconds to go proved to be the game-winner, with GB forcing a turnover and making enough free throws to steal the 94-90 road win at in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday night. The Phoenix (13-14, 8-6 HL) had three players score 20-plus points in the game, led by freshman Amari Davis with a career-high tying 28 points, JayQuan McCloud with 26 and Hankerson with another 20.

The win moves Green Bay into a third-place tie with Youngstown State at 8-6, with the two teams set to meet again Feb. 27. The win also gives GB a split with Milwaukee (12-14, 7-7 HL), with the Phoenix having beaten first-place Wright State as a could-be crucial tiebreaker. GB will finish with road trips at Detroit Mercy and Oakland, before hosting YSU and Cleveland State the final weekend of the regular season.

Hankerson's jumper gave GB the 91-90 lead, the possession before forcing Milwaukee's TeJon Lucas into a turnover as McCloud and Davis surrounded the guard and forced a turnover. GB hit one free throw, then forced another Lucas turnover, before Hankerson hit the final two free throws of the game to ice the game.

As a team, GB shot 56.9 percent (33-58) from the field and went 24-28 from the free throw line as well. Davis shot an impressive 11-for-15 from the field, putting himself in prime position to earn the would-be record-breaking ninth Horizon League Freshman of the Week honor.

McNair came up big late in the game as well, getting a big offensive rebound and putback. McNair would later find Hankerson all alone in the lane, as he was in traffic and made the perfect pass.

After a couple of technical fouls, the Phoenix fell behind by nine but weren't going down without a fight.

GB will now make the Metro Detroit trip this next weekend, visiting the Titans on Friday night.
