FORT WAYNE, Ind. --- Putting together a strong second half and a typical defensive masterpiece, the Green Bay women's basketball team won its fifth-straight game on Friday night by shutting down Purdue Fort Wayne 62-46 at the Gates Sports Center. GB (5-2 HL) held its opponent to fewer than 50 points for the third-straight game, forcing the Mastodons (0-9 HL) into 22 turnovers and 32 percent shooting.
After taking a 3-point lead into the half, the Phoenix dominated the second half, shooting 55 percent and outscoring PFW 38-25. The offensive output was led by
Lyndsey Robson, who tied her career-high with 18 points on 8-for-11 shooting and seven rebounds. Robson had 15 points in the second half alone and made 7 of her last 8 shots to finish the game.
Sydney Levy also tied her career-high for GB, scoring 16 points, her fourth game in five tries she's reached double-figures. Levy hit a big 3 that helped lead a 10-0 run for the Phoenix midway through the fourth quarter, taking a 55-37 lead and putting the game to rest.
The two teams struggled offensively in the first 20 minutes, combining to make just four of their 19 combined 3-point attempts. GB found its rhythm in the second half, and using an inside presence to pull away from PFW, outscoring them 34-12 in the paint.
All 11 players to enter the game for the Phoenix scored and grabbed a rebound, with
Cassie Schiltz leading the rest of the scoring with 8 points. GB had 36 points off the bench, with PFW scoring just 13.
Meghan Pingel dished out six assists, while
Brooklyn Blackburn had 4 points and 4 rebounds off the bench.
It's the fifth win in a row for GB, after starting 0-2 in Horizon League play the team has cruised to 5-2, chasing the trio of undefeated teams at the top of the standings.
PFW was led by Hannah Hess with 15 points. No other player had more than 8 points.
The two teams will battle again tomorrow afternoon for a 2 p.m. CT tip, with the Phoenix looking to secure its sixth win in a row.
