Green Bay Rallies in Second Half to Take Down Whitewater 63-41

GREEN BAY, Wis. -The Green Bay women's basketball team fought back from an 11-point deficit at 41-30 with 8:45 left in the fourth quarter to take down the Wisconsin-Whitewater Warhawks 63-41 in exhibition action.

Brooklyn Blackburn led the Phoenix with 10 points, two steals and two blocks. Jasmine Kondrakiewicz tacked on eight points and five steals and Meghan Pingel helped out with six points, four assists and two steals.

The Phoenix did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 10 boards that resulted in eight second chance points.

The Green Bay defense held Wisconsin-Whitewater shooters to just 38.1 percent from the field. The Warhawks did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only four offensive rebounds and scored two second chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After falling behind 3-0, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run with 9:20 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Hailey Oskey, to take a 7-3 lead. The Phoenix then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 19-11.

The Warhawks kept adding to that lead, building a 23-13 advantage before GB went on a 6-0 run, highlighted by a bucket from Bailey Butler, to narrow its deficit to 23-19. The Phoenix continued to chip away, reducing the Wisconsin-Whitewater lead to 26-23 heading into the break.

Green Bay's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Phoenix faced a 37-27 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter.

Wisconsin-Whitewater kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing a 41-30 advantage before the Phoenix went on a 33-0 run to seize a 63-41 lead. 

GAME NOTES

» The Phoenix held the Warhawks to only 38.1 percent shooting from the field.
» Green Bay recorded 16 total assists in the game.
» The Green Bay bench came alive by adding 29 points to its scoring output.
» The Phoenix turned 35 turnovers into 34 points on the offensive end.
» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 10 offensive boards in the game.
» Green Bay got a team-high six rebounds from Julia Hartwig.

UP NEXT
The Phoenix will continue exhibition play next Wednesday when they host Wisconsin-Platteville for a 7 p.m. game. Green Bay's regular season kicks off on Nov. 9 at South Dakota State.
