Men's Basketball Drops Final Game of Jersey Mike's Classic to Weber State

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -The Green Bay men's basketball team wrapped up their trip to the Jersey Mike's Classic on Sunday, falling to Weber State 68-58. 

The Phoenix (0-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Emmanuel Ansong, who had 12 points and nine rebounds. Cade Meyer added 11 points and Japannah Kellogg III chipped in as well with 10 points and seven rebounds.

Led by Ansong's four offensive rebounds, Green Bay did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 14 boards that resulted in 15 second chance points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

After falling behind 22-16 midway through the first half, Green Bay went on a 7-0 run, culminating in a bucket from Ansong, to take a 23-22 lead. The Phoenix then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-30.

Weber State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 43-32 advantage before Green Bay went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Donovan Ivory's layup, to shrink the deficit to 43-37 with 15:57 to go in the contest. Weber State responded and outscored the Phoenix the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 68-58. Green Bay did most of its work in the paint, recording 20 of its 28 points in the lane.

GAME NOTES

» Green Bay won the battle on the boards, 38-31.
» Green Bay cleaned up on the offensive glass, collecting 14 offensive boards in the game.
» Ansong led the Phoenix with 12 points.
» Green Bay got a team-high nine rebounds from Ansong.
» Meye's 11 points is a career-high for the freshman.
» Kellogg's 10 points and seven rebounds are both season-highs.
» The Phoenix struggled shooting the ball, going 23-of-60 from the field and 5-of-21 from three.
» GB's bench outscored the Wildcats', 16-9.

GB will return home for the first time since the season-opener to take on UW-Superior at the Kress Center on Saturday, November 27.
