SCOUTING THE SYCAMORES
The Sycamores are coming off a 2020-21 season where they finished 15-10 overall and 11-7 in Missouri Valley Conference play. Indiana State was the No. 4 seed, and fell to Loyola in the MVC quarterfinals, 65-49. Indiana State found a groove down the stretch last year, winning 11 of their last 14 games after starting the season 4-7.
Indiana State returns three starters from their 2020-21 squad, Tyreke Key, Cooper Neese, and Julian Larry. Unfortunately for the Sycamores, it was announced Monday morning that Key, their leading scorer a season ago, will have season-ending surgery to correct a shoulder instability issue.
LAST MATCHUP
The Phoenix played host the last time these two matched up, exactly three years ago, Nov. 9, 2018. GB found itself with a possession of tying the game late, but the visiting Sycamores made their final seven free throws to ice a 78-74 win at the Kress Center. The Phoenix trailed by as many as 13 before coming back to within one with a minute to play.
