Phoenix Falls to Youngstown State, 82-58

GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay men's basketball team couldn't keep up in the second half of Saturday's game against Youngstown State. The Phoenix were outscored 42-27 in the second en route to a 82-58 loss.

Emmanuel Ansong led the Phoenix (2-6, 1-1) with 13 points. Mitch Listau and Kamari McGee chipped in with eight points from the bench. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

Green Bay kept the game close during the first half. After finding themselves down 30-24 with just over four minutes to play, the Phoenix went on a 6-2 run capped by an Ansong jumper to bring the game to 32-30 with 2:42 left in the half. The Penguins responded with an 8-1 run of their own to close the half with a 40-31 advantage.

Youngstown State kept widening its lead after intermission, building a 62-36 lead with 11:29 left in the second half. From there the Phoenix attempted to muster a comeback, but never got closer than 20. Green Bay got a boost from its bench in the second period, as non-starters accounted for 16 of its 27 total points.

GAME NOTES

» The Green Bay bench gave the team a boost, scoring 30 of the teams 58 points.
» Emmanuel Ansong shot an effective 66.7-percent (6-9) from the field, the second-highest percentage of his season.
» Four Green Bay players tied the team-high with two rebounds.
» YSU won the rebounding battle, 31-19.
» The Penguins shot 53.6-percent from the floor compared to the Phoenix' 41.3-percent.
» Cade Meyer registered two blocks, a season-high.
» Four Phoenix players tallied a steal.
» The Phoenix went deep into their bench, with nine players recording 15 or more minutes.

UP NEXT

Green Bay will begin a month-long road trip strarting at Kansas City next Friday, December 10. The Phoenix will see two more non-conference foes before visiting Northern Kentucky and Wright State on Dec. 30 and Jan. 1. Green Bay's next home game is January 5, 2021, versus Milwaukee.
