FAIRBORN, Ohio --- The senior duo of
Caitlyn Hibner and
Lyndsey Robson combined for 36 points, including the final six critical points late, to help Green Bay knock off Wright State on the road 66-62 on Friday afternoon at the Nutter Center. The impressive road win by the Phoenix (13-4 HL) should help it climb the standings and all-important seedings for the Horizon League tournament, as the Raiders (15-4 HL) entered the final weekend in the top spot.
With GB leading 60-55 late, Angel Baker buried a 3 for the Raiders to cut the game to one possession. The senior Robson bullied her way inside for the answer, before WSU responded again. Hibner put away in doubts, scoring inside as well before icing the game at the free throw line by making both to go back up two possessions. The GB defense would deny from there.
The Phoenix led by as many as 15 points, but Wright State climbed back with a strong third quarter and start to the fourth. GB led 37-25 at the half, after shooting 50 percent and going 11-for-13 at the free throw line.
Hibner finished with a team-high 19 points and six rebounds, with Robson adding 17 points with seven rebounds and four assists.
Hailey Oskey helped spark the offense as well, finishing with 11 points and five rebounds.
Jasmine Kondrakiewicz added seven points and
Meghan Pingel had four with a team-high five assists.
GB finished just under 50 percent in the game (23-49) and held Wright State to only 22 makes on 63 attempts. The Phoenix assisted on 16 of its 23 made field goals.
Baker led the Raiders with 29 points on six made 3s before fouling out late in the game. WSU had just 9 points in the opening quarter but scored 19 in the fourth to stage a comeback bid.
The two teams will battle again tomorrow in the regular season finale, with likely even more potential seeding implications at stake. The game is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT on ESPN+.
