MILWAUKEE, Wis. --- Green Bay fell to Milwaukee in a trio of tight sets on Monday night.
Green Bay trailed 24-18 in the opening set when
Alexandra Zakutney began to serve. The Phoenix rattled off seven-straight points and what appeared to be the eighth and final point, granting the Phoenix a 26-24 victory in the first game, or so it seemed.
Milwaukee challenged the touch and the call was overturned to favor the home team. The Panthers scored the next two points and claimed the first set, 27-25.
The second set continued to be a back-and-forth battle, as neither team had more than a three-point lead throughout. GB was in front 23-21 after a kill from
Shannon Coughlin, but the Panthers responded with four-consecutive points to take the set, 25-23.
Milwaukee once again claimed victory in the third set, 25-23, to cap off a night in which no set was decided by more than two points.
Alexandra Zakutney tied her season high with 10 kills and added a career-high eight aces.
Addy Karmik directed the offense with 22 assists while collected a team-high 12 digs.
Milwaukee and Green Bay will meet again tomorrow at 12:00 pm for game two of the series.
