DAYTON, OHIO (GreenBayPhoenix.com) --- With only three matches left in the regular season, the Green Bay men's soccer team registered an important 2-0 win at Wright State on Wednesday afternoon, moving itself into the fourth spot in the Horizon League standings. With this year's Horizon League Tournament taking the top four teams only, based on league points per match, GB both put itself in the drivers position and picks up what could be an important tiebreaker.
Coming off a week break after last week's cancellation, GB (3-2-1 HL) wasted no time getting on the board.
Jamison Yoder boomed one beyond midfield and GB settled it, Freddie Ortega played a give and go with Ezau Milan, with Milan finding Ortega who played it back to Milan who then went on to beat the keeper and bury it. It's the first goal of the season for Milan, which also serves as the game-winner.
After the two teams played scoreless the rest of the first half, the Phoenix found the back of the net again in the 58' on a nice finish by
Bernard Assibey Rhule. Rhule found an opening after a nice assist from Milan, recording his second goal of the season.
The Phoenix defense held the Raiders (3-3-1 HL) off the board for all 90 minutes, helping Yoder record his second shutout of the year.
GB has now scored two goals in three-straight matches. The team returns home for its final two matches against Milwaukee (March 30) and Oakland (April 5), as it looks to stake claim to a spot in the conference tournament.
