Green Bay Erupts for Nine Runs in Consecutive Games to Sweep Flames

GREEN BAY, Wis. --- It was a great day for Green Bay on the diamond, as the Phoenix plated nine runs in each game of its doubleheader with UIC on Friday at King Park. A 9-4 win to start the day marked the first time since the 2016 season GB took down the Flames, and a 9-7 victory to wrap things up marked the first consecutive wins over the Chicago-based team since 2014.

GAME 1 | Green Bay 9, UIC 4
Freshman Randi McKay and sophomore Tiffany Giese each collected three hits to help power the Green Bay Phoenix past the UIC Flames 9-4 on Thursday.

In addition to her three hits, Giese had an RBI to lead the Phoenix. McKay added a home run and three RBIs to her three-hit performance as well. Junior Morgan Bihun also helped out for Green Bay, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a home run and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the first inning. Green Bay got on the board thanks to freshman Samantha Saloun's RBI double with one out.

The Flames broke the tie and re-took the lead heading into the third inning, when the Phoenix got back on the scoreboard. Giese came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay, which tightened the Flames lead to 3-2.

Green Bay kept the Flames off the scoreboard before rallying to tie it up at three in the fourth. The Phoenix scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Giese.

The game stayed tied until the very next inning, when Green Bay got going again on offense. The Phoenix left the yard two times in the inning on the way to scoring four runs, bringing the Green Bay advantage to 7-3.

UIC got within 7-4 until the Phoenix scored again in the sixth inning to stretch its lead to 9-4. Freshman Jadin Justman's run-scoring single highlighted an inning where Green Bay scored twice. The score remained 9-4 for the rest of the game, as the Phoenix coasted to the win.
