GREEN BAY, Wis. -- The Green Bay softball team claimed its first series over UIC since 2014, which also happens to be the last time Green Bay (14-8, 10-5) was crowned regular season champions, earning a split in Saturday's doubleheader to take three out of four games from the Flames. Gabby Paliska picked up the first win of her career in game two after throwing four shutout innings in her complete game.
GAME 1 | UIC 13, Green Bay 0
After back-to-back nine runs games in Friday's doubleheader, the Green Bay offense struggled to find its rhythm in game one Saturday.
Junior Kayla Schwebke (7-4) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss.
Freshman Becca Edwards led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-1 in the ballgame with a walk.
THE RUNDOWN
Green Bay managed two chances with runners on third in the shutout, going a total of 2-for-12 with runners in scoring position. The Phoenix last got a runner on third in the fifth, when sophomore Greta Thompson made it 60 feet away from scoring with two outs.

Freshman Samantha Saloun racked up four RBIs to help propel the Green Bay Phoenix over the UIC Flames 9-5 on Saturday.
Freshman Gabby Paliska (1-4) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up five runs, all of them earned, on 11 hits, allowing one walk and striking out four.
Saloun went 1-for-3 with a home run and a walk in addition to her four RBIs for the Phoenix. Sophomore Greta Thompson put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Sophomore Tiffany Giese also contributed for Green Bay, putting together three hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.
THE RUNDOWN
Trailing 1-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the first inning. Green Bay got an RBI single from Giese, scoring Bailey Schultz from third base.
The Flames then scored two runs to retake their advantage heading into the second inning, when the Phoenix responded by getting back on the scoreboard themselves. Green Bay hit two home runs in the inning on the way to pushing five runs across. which brought the score to 6-3 in favor of the Phoenix.
Green Bay held UIC without a run before building their lead to 7-3 in the fourth inning. The Phoenix scored once on an RBI single off the bat of junior Morgan Bihun.
Green Bay held the Flames scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. Giese's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Phoenix, bringing the Green Bay advantage to 9-3. UIC put two runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Phoenix still coasted to the 9-5 win.
