Green Bay Notches Key Wins Over Cleveland State Friday

GAME 1 | Green Bay 10, Cleveland State 2

CLEVELAND, Ohio --Junior Morgan Bihun racked up four RBIs to help propel the Green Bay Phoenix over the Cleveland State Vikings 10-2 in game one Friday.

Junior Kayla Schwebke (9-6) got the win for Green Bay (19-15, 14-12). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, none earned, on three hits, allowing no walks and striking out seven.

Bihun went 2-for-3 with a home run in addition to her four RBIs for the Phoenix. Sophomore Alyssa Brewer furnished a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Randi McKay also contributed for Green Bay, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.

THE RUNDOWN
The Phoenix put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Green Bay plated two runs when Bihun left the yard with Brewer aboard.

The Phoenix then held the Vikings scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Green Bay put together a three-run frame, culminating in a run-scoring single from McKay, which brought the score to 5-0 in favor of the Phoenix.

Cleveland State narrowed Green Bay's lead to 5-2 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 10-2 in the seventh inning. The Phoenix bats heated up in the inning, scoring five runs, including a one-run single off the bat of freshman Becca Edwards. The score remained 10-2 for the rest of the game, as Green Bay coasted to the win.

The Green Bay Phoenix took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 6-3 win against the Cleveland State Vikings in the day's final matchup Friday.

Sophomore Brittany Baneck (8-2) got the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, two earned, on eight hits, allowing two walks and striking out three.

Freshman Jadin Justman led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double and two RBIs. Freshman Samantha Saloun put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Alyssa Brewer also contributed, going 2-for-4 for Green Bay with an RBI.

THE RUNDOWN
The Phoenix got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Green Bay scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Justman.

The Vikings failed to push any runs across before the Phoenix built on their lead in the fourth inning. which brought the score to 6-0 in favor of the Phoenix. Cleveland State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Green Bay still held on for the 6-3 win.
