GREEN BAY, Wis. --- The Green Bay softball team got back in its winning groove on Tuesday afternoon at King Park, sweeping Purdue Fort Wayne in a doubleheader to improve to 16-12 on the season and 11-9 in conference action.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 12, Purdue Fort Wayne 4
Freshman Jadin Justman and sophomore Tiffany Giese each racked up two extra base hits to help lead the Green Bay Phoenix over the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 12-4 on Tuesday.
Junior Kayla Schwebke (8-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went five innings, giving up four runs, all of them earned, on six hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.
Giese's two extra base hits were the highlight of a 2-for-3 day, and included two doubles and three RBIs. Justman made her contribution with a double, a triple, a walk and an RBI, part of a 2-for-3 performance at the plate. Bailey Schultz also contributed for the Phoenix, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a walk and three RBIs.
THE RUNDOWN
The Phoenix got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the bottom of the first inning. Green Bay got on the board thanks to freshman Becca Edwards' RBI double with one out.
The Mastodons failed to push any runs across before the Phoenix offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. The Green Bay offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a two-run double off the bat of Giese, which brought the Phoenix lead to 5-0.
Purdue Fort Wayne narrowed Green Bay's lead to 5-2 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the third inning. The Phoenix recorded two runs when a single from Schultz brought home freshman Gracie Peterson and junior Crystal Guzman.
The Mastodons gained ground, closing the gap to 7-4 until Green Bay added some insurance in the fifth. The Phoenix scored five runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run double off the bat of Justman, bringing the Green Bay advantage to 12-4. The score remained 12-4 for the rest of the game, as the Phoenix coasted to the win.

Green Bay received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Phoenix put eight runs on the board and take down the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons 8-4 Tuesday.
Sophomore Brittany Baneck (6-1) got the win for Green Bay (16-12, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing four walks and striking out five.
In the batter's box, the Phoenix were paced by sophomore Tiffany Giese, who went 3-for-3 on the day with a walk and an RBI. Sophomore Alyssa Brewer compiled a noteworthy performance as well, going 1-for-1 with three walks. Junior Crystal Guzman also helped out for Green Bay, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
