Green Bay Wraps Series with Win at Purdue Fort Wayne

GAME 1 | Purdue Fort Wayne 7, Green Bay 3

FORT WAYNE, Ind. --The Green Bay Phoenix got a boost from sophomore Tiffany Giese, who collected three hits in a 7-3 loss to the Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons Saturday.

Sophomore Brittany Baneck (8-4) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay (20-17, 15-16). The right-hander went four innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on one hit, allowing five walks and striking out six.

In addition to her three hits, Giese had an RBI to lead the Phoenix. Junior Morgan Bihun put together a standout day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with two walks. Freshman Samantha Saloun also chipped in for Green Bay, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Phoenix first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Freshman Dawn Pawlak came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay and get them on the board.

The Phoenix kept the deficit at 2-1 before tying the score in the fifth. Green Bay scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Saloun, which evened the score at 2-2.

Purdue Fort Wayne busted up the tie and grabbed a 3-2 lead heading into the sixth, when Green Bay tied the game at three. The Phoenix scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Giese. Purdue Fort Wayne then scored four times over the remaining one inning to break the tie and grab the 7-3 win.

FORT WAYNE, Ind. --It was a rough day for Purdue Fort Wayne pitchers, as the Green Bay Phoenix plated six runs en route to a 6-5 win over the Mastodons on Saturday.

Sophomore Brittany Baneck (9-4) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Green Bay (21-17, 16-17). The right-hander went 3.2 innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on six hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.

Freshman Jadin Justman led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Freshman Daija Williams put together a standout performance as well, going 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Freshman Samantha Saloun also contributed, going 1-for-4 for Green Bay with two RBIs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Phoenix were trailing 3-0 in the fifth inning when they first put runs on the board. Green Bay's offense started clicking and put up five runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Williams and a two-run single from Saloun.

The Mastodons then gained ground, narrowing the lead to 5-4 until the Phoenix expanded their advantage in the seventh. Green Bay picked up a run on Justman's two-out solo home run off of junior Jadelyn Johnson, which brought the score to 6-4 in favor of the Phoenix. Purdue Fort Wayne put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Green Bay still held on for the 6-5 win.
