MILWAUKEE --- The Green Bay men's soccer team kicked off its 2021 campaign with a tall task on Thursday night in Milwaukee, taking on 19th-ranked Marquette at Valley Fiels. The Golden Eagles (1-0-0) came away with the 2-0 home victory, scoring both goals in the first half.
The Green Bay (0-1-0) defense did lock down in the second half, holding MU scoreless the final 45 minutes. The Golden Eagles, which made it all the way to the final 16 teams in last spring's NCAA Tournament and is ranked in the top 20 in all major polls, was held to just three shots in the second half after putting up eight in the first. GB tried pressuring the Marquette defense, but it was too tough to crack in the end.
GB will continue its challenging opening stretch with a trip to Madison on Sunday night when it faces Wisconsin for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
