ABILENE, Texas --- After dropping its first match to start the day, Green Bay bounced back in the afternoon to down Texas Southern in straight sets at the 2021 Wildcat Classic hosted by Abilene Christian. GB (2-4) fell 3-0 to New Mexico to open its weekend and will wrap up the tournament in Texas tomorrow against Abilene Christian at 11 a.m. 

Green Bay 3, Texas Southern 0
The Green Bay volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep (25-10, 25-18, 25-22) over the Texas Southern Lady Tigers Friday at Moody Coliseum.

Anna Eaton finished with 10 kills on the day to lead the Phoenix attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .588.Zoi Sherolli also pitched in with five in the contest. Defensively, GB had two players reach double figures in digs as Abby Gardner had 14 and Calli Gentry had 11.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Phoenix won the first point and held the lead the rest of the way to secure the first set 25-10. Green Bay led by 16 points at 16-0 before closing out the set. Green Bay also supplemented their offense with four aces in the opening set.

SET 2 | Green Bay took set two 25-18 to swiftly take a 2-0 lead. The Phoenix grabbed control of the set lead early on at 2-1 and never trailed. Green Bay led by as many as eight points at 24-16 before closing out the set, collecting 15 kills while only committing two attack errors in the process.

SET 3 | Green Bay closed the match in a 3-0 sweep after grabbing the third set. The Phoenix took a 1-0 lead and never looked back in the set to secure a 25-22 victory. Green Bay opened up as much as a seven point lead at 9-2 before finishing off the set.

New Mexico 3, Green Bay 0
The Green Bay volleyball team could not out-play a dynamic Lobos offense Friday losing to New Mexico in straight sets (16-25, 15-25, 18-25).

Anna Eaton finished with eight kills on the day to lead the Phoenix attack while finishing with a hitting percentage of .294. GB got 14 digs from Abby Gardner to lead them defensively.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Phoenix found themselves in an early hole, dropping a tough first set 25-16. Green Bay trailed by as many as 10 points as New Mexico grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up five times before the Lobos took control.

SET 2 | Green Bay then lost the second set 25-15 to fall behind in the match two sets to none. Green Bay trailed by as many as 10 points as New Mexico grabbed the advantage for good at 5-4 in a set that was tied up five times before the Lobos took over the lead.

SET 3 | Green Bay was not able to win set three and was swept by New Mexico. The Phoenix fell in a tough set 25-18. Green Bay trailed by as many as eight points as New Mexico grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was knotted up five times before the Lobos took over the lead.
