Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Green Bay Unable to Keep Pace with Milwaukee in Second Half

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Kamari McGee poured in a career-high 22 points, but a late Milwaukee surge resulted in the Green Bay men's basketball team falling to the Panthers 63-49 at the Resch Center Wednesday.

McGee led the Phoenix (2-12, 1-4) on 6-of-15 shooting, but the primary source of his points was the charity stripe, where he went a perfect 8-for-8. Emmanuel Ansong added 10 points and Japannah Kellogg III chipped in as well with a double-double, scoring 10 points and gathering 11 rebounds.

Green Bay's defense held Milwaukee to only 15.4-percent shooting from beyond the arc, but the Panthers scored 42 points in the paint.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Neither team was able to create any separation early until Milwaukee rattled off a 9-2 run to give them a 17-10 lead. It looked like the Panthers would take a double digit lead into the break when they led 28-16 with 1:41 to go, but Kamari McGee scored five straight points for the Phoenix to cut the lead back to seven before the half ended.

Green Bay came out of the break hot and jumped out to a 12-5 run that tied the game at 33 with 16:54 left in the game. However, the Panthers responded with a 16-1 run over the next six minutes to grab a 50-34 lead that essentially put the game away. Milwaukee's lead stayed in double figures for the rest of the game, and they closed out Green Bay 63-49.
