Green Bay is 4-10-0 versus the Golden Grizzlies all-time. The two teams last met on October 13, 2021, with GB losing 3-1 at Oakland. Oakland has won three consecutive games against GB. The Phoenix is 2-5 at home against the Golden Grizzlies.
IUPUI owns a 5-3-2 record against Green Bay. The contests between the Jaguars and Phoenix have always been close, with nine of the ten matchups ending in a tie or one-score difference. The Jaguars defeated GB 1-0 in their last clash on October 16, 2021.
ABOUT THE GOLDEN GRIZZLIES
Eric Progue is in his 14th campaign with Oakland, finding success with a 103-98-31 record entering play Wednesday. The Golden Grizzlies have had a challenging season on both sides of the ball, scoring 0.64 goals per game while surrendering just over two per contest. Dawson Schrum, a redshirt senior, paces Oakland with two goals and two assists.
ABOUT THE JAGUARS
Sid Van Druenen was named the seventh head coach in IUPUI men's soccer history in February 2022. Van Druenen comes from Wright State, where he served in numerous capacities before being promoted to the top assistant leading up to the 2018 season. The Jaguars enter their Wednesday evening game against Northern Kentucky 1-5-5 overall and have not won a conference game yet, holding an 0-1-2 Horizon League record.
While IUPUI has struggled defensively (2.09 GAA), Josemir Gomez has helped keep the Jaguars in every game. He leads the team with six goals, 14 points, and 13 shots on goal. Gomez had a hot hand midway through the season, scoring in three straight contests and finding the net in four out of five games from Sept. 2 to Sept. 20.
TOUGH TOBIAS
Starting goalkeeper Tobias Jahn has been dominant for the Phoenix. He has faced 101 shots, notching 40 saves while surrendering just 10 goals, the fewest in the Horizon League. Jahn has pitched three shutouts, tied for second in the HL, and has recorded an 80-percent save percentage, tied for the best in the HL. Through 11 games, Green Bay is the only HL team to have a GAA (goals against average) under 1.00. He was tabbed Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on October 3. He is the third GB player to garner the accolade this year.
CANADIAN COUNTERPARTS
Andrew Paolucci and Keegan Walker, who are both Ontario, Canada natives, lead the Phoenix with three goals each. Paolucci and Walker are first and second on the team in assists, respectively. Walker, a freshman who previously trained with Toronto FC, is second on the squad in shots (18), only behind Josh Johansen's 20. The Canadian duo has combined for three go-ahead goals.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix has just five Horizon League games remaining in the regular season. Currently, GB sits in sixth place, just one point behind Detroit Mercy and two points back of Robert Morris and Oakland, who are in a tie for third place. GB plays OAK, IUPUI, Purdue Fort Wayne, RMU, and Cleveland State to end the season. Oakland, PFW, and CSU are above GB in the standings, while PFW and IUPUI are chasing Green Bay for the final HL Tournament spot.
