Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Green Bay Garners Point, Draws 0-0 With Oakland

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Despite a strong second-half effort on offense, the Green Bay men's soccer team tied with Oakland 0-0 on Wednesday afternoon.

Green Bay (5-2-5, 1-1-3 HL) still earned a point with the tie. GB and Detroit are tied for fifth with six points in the standings, with Detroit hosting last-place Purdue Fort Wayne tonight. If Detroit loses, Green Bay has the tiebreaker over the Titans.

Meanwhile, Oakland (2-7-3, 2-1-2 HL) moved to third in the conference standings with seven points.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix and Golden Grizzlies had three shots each in the opening frame. Oakland tripled Green Bay in corner kicks 6-2 but couldn't take advantage. Neither team could come away with a score, even after Keegan Walker torched a shot off the crossbar a little over 21 minutes into the game.

Green Bay's defense was stout in the second half, not allowing a shot until the 80-minute mark when Sebastian Nuzzo sent the ball in, but Tobias Jahn was there for his lone save. GB was applying pressure to the Oakland back line, racking up five shots and a handful of shots on goal. The last opportunity came with a shot from Christoph Schurz minutes after Nuzzo's.

GAME NOTES

  • Tommy Coughlin received two yellow card, the second coming with just four seconds left in the game.
  • Luca Contestabile also received a yellow card.
  • Walker led GB with three shots, while three different GB players had a shot on goal.
  • Green Bay registered three shots on goal.
  • The Phoenix outshot Oakland 8-4.
  • Oakland held possession 57 percent of the game.
