GB is 3-5-3 against the Mastodons, including a 4-0-1 record at home versus PFW. However, PFW has a 2-1-2 record at home against the Phoenix. PFW's lone home loss to GB was October 19, 2005, a 3-0 shutout by Green Bay. The teams met on October 23 last season when the game went to double overtime but resulted in a 0-0 tie.
ABOUT THE MASTODONS
Stephen Gorton is in his third season as head coach of the PFW program. He has a 9-23-5 record heading into Saturday's action against Green Bay. Despite the Mastodons losing three straight, all three losses are by one goal, and before the losing streak, they tied 0-0 against Robert Morris. Luke Benford is the do-it-all player for the Mastodons, leading the team in goals (4), shots (19), points (9), and shots on goal (9).
TOUGH TOBIAS
Starting goalkeeper Tobias Jahn has been outstanding for the Phoenix. He has faced 121 shots and notched 46 saves while surrendering just 11 goals, the second-fewest in the Horizon League. Jahn has pitched four shutouts, tied for second in the HL, and has recorded an 80.7-percent save percentage, second best in the HL. Through 13 games, Green Bay is the only HL team to have a GAA (goals against average) under 1.00. He was rewarded when the Horizon League tabbed him Horizon League Defensive Player of the Week on October 3. He is the third GB player to garner the accolade this year.
WALK THIS WAY
Keegan Walker, an Ontario, Canada, native, leads the Phoenix in multiple categories. He has scored a team-leading three goals while notching a team-leading 22 shots and 14 shots on goal. Walker is also second on the team in points (6). He and Andrew Paolucci, another Ontario native, have combined for three of Green Bay's five go-ahead goals, with Walker tallying two.
ON THE HORIZON
The Phoenix has just two Horizon League games remaining in the regular season. Currently, GB sits in seventh place, just one point behind Robert Morris and three points back of IUPUI, who is the no. five seed. GB plays RMU at home and Cleveland State on the road to end the season. Green Bay could reach as high as the no. four seed if Oakland loses out and GB wins out. Northern Kentucky is tied with Green Bay, leaving no room for error in the race for the final HL tournament spot.
