GREEN BAY, Wis. – Green Bay women's soccer celebrated their seniors Saturday morning, honoring Emily Murphy, Annie Mason, McKayla Kertscher, and Tori Wittenbrock pregame. Unfortunately, the Northern Kentucky Norse came into Aldo Santaga Stadium and spoiled it, defeating the Phoenix 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The match was feisty with four total yellow cards drawn. A Murphy foul inside the box just over 29 minutes into the opening half gave way to a Norse penalty kick and goal, the first of two. The second penalty kick goal came after Sierra Morgano tripped Meghan Carl, who buried her attempt. Murphy led the Phoenix with two shots before intermission.
After the break, both teams would pick up the offense, combining for 22 shots (14 for NKU, eight for GB). However, neither team scored. Murphy continued to press, totaling four shots in the second half, including three within four minutes. Despite switching goalkeepers at halftime, the Norse kept Green Bay scoreless in the 2-0 loss.
GAME NOTES
- NKU outshot the Phoenix 22-13 and 10-3 in shots on goal.
- Zoey Pagels, Natalia Morales, and Sierra Morgano chipped in with two shots each.
- Mason tallied seven saves, surrendering just the two penalty goals while facing 22 shots.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will close out the regular season with a home clash against Milwaukee on Wednesday, October 26. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m.
