MACOMB, Ill. – Keegan Walker's 77th-minute goal propelled Green Bay men's soccer to a 2-1 win over Western Illinois on Tuesday. Walker has scored in three-straight games for the Phoenix.
It's the second-straight win for GBÂ and improves their record to 5-2-3 overall.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix had a 5-4 shot advantage in the first half, but neither team found the back of the net after 45 minutes.
Green Bay drew first blood in the 54th minute when Jake Parish scored his first career goal.
The Leathernecks equalized just 14 minutes later on a goal from Muazu Sagir in the 68th minute, assisted by Damian Rincon.
GB then busted up the 1-1 tie on Walker's goal, his third of the season. Andrew Paolucci assisted the goal, his second of the season.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay received four yellow cards on the day.
- Tobias Jahn totaled one save for the Phoenix out of 17 total Leathernecks shots.
- Western Illinois pushed for another equalizer late, resulting in a 17-10 shot advantage after the final whistle blew.
- Green Bay had five shots on target compared to two for the Leathernecks.
- Walker is now tied for the team lead with three goals.
- Paolucci notched his second assist and leads the team with eight points this season.
ON THE HORIZON
Tuesday's match was the final non-conference game of the season for the Phoenix. GB will resume HL play this Saturday when they battle for the Chancellor's Cup against in-state rival Milwaukee on Saturday at 4 p.m. Saturday also marks Alumni Day and Soctoberfest presented by University Heights at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
