GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's soccer team played to a 1-1 tie Saturday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
GB moved to 5-2-4 overall and 1-1-2 in Horizon League play, garnering a point in the standings with the draw. This is the third time the Phoenix and Panthers have tied since 2006.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Each team had its fair share of opportunities in the first half. Milwaukee out shot the Phoenix 6-4 in the first 45 minutes, but Green Bay broke the scoreless tie when Michael McDougall scored his second goal of the season in the 12th minute. Kolton Prater and Josh Johansen were credited with an assist after neat build up from the pair.
In the second half, both squads upped the aggresiveness. A total of five cards (three yellow, two red), two ejections (one on each team), and 11 fouls were dealt. The Panthers outshot GB again (8-3) and cashed in on a Raul Medina goal in the 83rd minute. All three of Green Bay's second-half shots came in the final 38 seconds.
GAME NOTES
- Green Bay's Rohin Kapila and Milwaukee's Logan Farrington were given a red card.
- Kapila's red was dealt in the 79th minute, with Farrington following shortly after in the 86th.
- Phoenix goalkeeper Tobias Jahn totaled seven saves out of 14 Panther shots.
- Green Bay registered three shots on goal out of eight total shots.
ON THE HORIZON
GB will continue HL play Wednesday, October 12 at home against Oakland. Kickoff is at 1 p.m., and the game will mark this year's Pride Day.
