GREEN BAY, Wis. - The Green Bay volleyball team got back in the win column with a dominant 3-0 sweep over the IUPUI Jaguars Tuesday night at the Kress Center.
With the victory, GB improved to 20-9 overall and 11-4 in Horizon League play. The Jaguars fell to 9-17 overall and 3-11 in league action.
HOW IT HAPPENED
SET 1Â | The Phoenix set the tone early, going up 3-0 in the opening set. Angie Gromos, Alexandra Zakutney, and Shannon Coughlin each tallied a kill. IUPUI would respond with four straight points, including an Allie Pogue service ace and Briana Brown kill. The Jaguars would eventually take a 7-6 lead, but GB would get the ball rolling from there, outscoring IUPUI 19-10 to close out the set. Gromos led the Phoenix with four kills in the 25-16 first-set victory.
SET 2Â | Both teams couldn't find a rhythm to begin the second set and were tied at 12 midway through before a kill by Millai Madison gave the Jaguars a 13-12 lead. However, Green Bay would tie it back up at 13 after a Sidney Veatch service error, giving GB a spark. The Phoenix would notch three more points to take a 16-13 lead. IUPUI would not go away, cutting the deficit to 19-17 after another Pogue kill. Down the stretch, Gromos and Behnke would combine for four kills in a 6-0 run that ended the set, giving Green Bay a commanding 2-0 advantage.
SET 3Â | IUPUI came out of the gates swinging in the third set to take a 6-3 lead. Pogue and Brown tacked on one kill each, while Morgan Ostrowski had a service ace and kill. An Emily Alan attack error would help Green Bay the third set at six, but a Zakutney attack error would give IUPUI the lead back at 10-9. From there, the Phoenix rattled off seven consecutive points to take a 16-10 lead. Shannon Coughlin got in on the action with two kills, and Gromos tacked on another. GB was up 19-11 when the Jaguars rallied to make it a game, going on a 6-2 run to cut the deficit to four at 21-17. Behnke would record a kill, and Gromos would add two to help give Green Bay a 25-17 set win and their 14th sweep of the 2022 campaign.

» Ellie Kurpeikis had a match-high six blocks.
» Green Bay's front row picked up ten blocks in the match.
» Gromos had a match-high ten kills for the Phoenix.
» Annelise Sparks led all players with 19 digs.
» Green Bay secured their 20th win this season, just the fifth time in program history they've had 20+.
» Calli Gentry racked up 30 more assists, bringing her total to 1,040 on the season.
UP NEXT
The Phoenix will have three consecutive road games to end the regular season, beginning this Friday and Saturday when they visit Cleveland State and Oakland, respectively. The regular season will end on Friday, November 11, with a battle against in-state rival Milwaukee. Horizon League Championships action begins November 18, with the HL regular season champions hosting.
