INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Friday afternoon the Horizon League office announced the 2022 Men's Soccer All-League awards, with four from Green Bay men's soccer earning spots.
Green Bay finished the season with the top defense in the Horizon League, and 21st-best in the nation, allowing just .81 goals per game. No other team in the league was under 1.0 goals per game. Two of those most responsible for this achievement were
Tobias Jahn and
Hesron Barry, who were named HL Goalkeeper of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year respectively.
Christoph Schurz and
Keegan Walker were also able to grab a spot on the Horizon League All-Freshman Team after strong rookie campaigns.
TOBIAS JAHN – HORIZON LEAGUE GOALKEEPER OF THE YEAR
Jahn started in all 16 matches for the Phoenix, and one was of just two players to play all 1,440 minutes this season. The Owen, Germany, native finished first in the HL in goals against average (.813) and save percentage (.814). He also finished tied for the most shutouts on the season with five.
HESRON BARRY – HORIZON LEAGUE DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE YEAR
Barry started in 15 games for Green Bay, finishing third on the team with 1,274 minutes on the season. The junior from Ocho Rios, Jamaica led the back line for the Phoenix and was a vital part in shutting down opposing attackers.
CHRISTOPH SCHURZ – ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
True freshman
Christoph Schurz played in 13 games this season, starting in 12 of them. Schurz was traditionally deployed as the team's right back and was another key piece of the Phoenix defense.
KEEGAN WALKER – ALL-FRESHMAN TEAM
Keegan Walker played in all 16 games during his freshman season, starting in 15 of them. The Oakville, Ontario, native was the team's joint leader in goals with three. Walker was the only attacker to play 1,000+ minutes this season (1,016).
