GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's soccer team won its third consecutive Horizon League match 2-1 over Robert Morris on Friday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Green Bay improved to 7-7-1 and 4-3-1 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix jumped to 13 points in the league standings and is now alone in second place going into Friday night. Robert Morris dropped to 4-3-7 and 2-1-5 in HL play. The Colonials are now tied with Purdue Fort Wayne in third place with 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Phoenix offense wasted no time when
Keegan Walker scored in the second minute.
Jeloni Murray-Powell started the action with a long ball to
Luke Nicholson, who found Walker for the score. Walker scored a second goal in the 15th minute, and
Ty Perkins had the assist to give the Phoenix a two-goal lead early. The Green Bay defense held Robert Morris to a single shot attempt in the first 45 minutes.
Robert Morris cut the two-goal deficit in half with a goal from Anass Hadran in the 60th minute. Jack Bejarano assisted Hadran's goal. RMU only had one shot on goal the remainder of the match in the 78th minute, once again by Hadran, but Phoenix goalkeeper
Drew Swancutt made the crucial save.
GAME NOTES
- Chris Album led all players with five shots.
- Green Bay outshot RMU 17-3 and 8-2 on goal.
- RMU had four yellow cards compared to GB's one.
COMING UP
Green Bay has its regular-season finale of Horizon League play when they travel to league leader Cleveland State on Tuesday. The Phoenix is currently second in the Horizon League with 13 points, while Cleveland State is first with 18. Kickoff for the match is set for 1 p.m. CT.
