GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay men's soccer team picked up a key 1-0 victory over Wright State in a Horizon League match Saturday afternoon at Aldo Santaga Stadium.
Green Bay improved to 6-7-1 and 3-3-1 in Horizon League play. The Phoenix jumped to 10 points in the league standings and is now tied for fourth in league play. Wright State dropped to 2-11-1 and 2-5 in HL play.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Jeloni Murray-Powell scored the only goal of the match, his first of the season, off a
Kazuki Okazaki corner kick in the 15th minute. Wright State had three shots in the first half but were unable to muster a shot on goal.
Maximillion Banfi had the lone shot on goal for the Raiders, but was unable to capitalize as Phoenix goalkeeper
Drew Swancutt was there for the save.
Aleks Pituch nearly gave GB a 2-0 lead in the 76th minute, but Wright State goalkeeper Alessandro Malterer was there to match it and make the save. The Phoenix defense held strong after Banfi's shot in the 76th minute, not allowing a shot the rest of the match.
GAME NOTES
- Keegan Walker and Noah Madrigal each had two shots to lead the Phoenix.
- Green Bay outshot Wright State 10-6 and 4-1 on goal.
- Phoenix goalkeeper Drew Swancutt notched his fourth shutout of the season.
- This marks Green Bay's first win against Wright State at home since Oct. 27, 2018
COMING UP
Green Bay continues Horizon League action on Friday at home against Robert Morris at Noon CT. The Phoenix is currently tied for fourth in the Horizon League with 10 points in the league table, while Robert Morris is tied for second with 11 points.
