Green Bay Drops Doubleheader at Texas A&M - Corpus Christi

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – It was a tough day for the Green Bay softball team, as they dropped a pair of games at Texas A&M Corpus Christi, 6-1, and 4-0.
 
GAME 1
The Phoenix got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning. Senior Tiffany Giese came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay and get them on the board. The Phoenix were unable to hold the lead, as Texas A&M-CC scored six times over the remaining six innings to grab the 6-1 win.

Sophomore Samantha Saloun led the way for Green Bay, going 2-for-3. Giese and senior Aubrey Drohner were the other two Phoenix to grab a hit in the game.

Senior Brittany Baneck (1-2) got the ball to start for Green Bay and took the loss. She pitched 5.1 innings and allowed six runs on seven hits.
 
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay pitchers limited Texas A&M-CC to just 1-for-6 (.167) with runners in scoring position.
» Texas A&M-CC was led offensively by freshman Paolina Baez, who went 2-for-3 with a triple.
» The Islanders outhit GB, 8-4.
» Texas A&M-CC pitching didn't walk a single Phoenix batter.
» Graduate Student Lauren King pitched 0.2 innings of scoreless ball.
 
GAME 2
The Islanders put two up on the board in the fourth inning before doubling their lead to 4-0 in the fifth inning. Green Bay managed two chances with runners on third in the game but went a total of 1-for-6 with runners in scoring position. The Phoenix threatened with bases loaded and no outs in the sixth inning, but couldn't push across a run.

King (1-2) started and took the loss in the circle for Green Bay. Freshman Abigail Gawlinski pitched the final two innings, striking out two and allowing no runs.

Junior Randi McKay led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 2-for-4.
 
GAME NOTES
» Sophomore Katie Joten singled in a pinch-hit appearance.
» Saloun went 1-for-3 in game two.
» Junior Dawn Pawlak went 1-for-3.
» Texas A&M-CC was led offensively by junior Pal Egan, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and an RBI.
» Depew led the Islanders pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings.
 
COMING UP
GB will have a chance to bounce back tomorrow with a split doubleheader at UIW and UTSA. The Phoenix will square off with Incarnate Word at 1:30 p.m. CT before taking on UTSA at 6 p.m. CT.
