GREEN BAY, Wis. – The Green Bay softball team swept their Thursday doubleheader against Purdue Fort Wayne after the offense exploded for six runs in game one, followed by 10 more in game two.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 6, Purdue Fort Wayne 3
GB's offense came out of the gates hot, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to RBIs from
Samantha Saloun,
Lauren King,
Isabella Curtin, and
Tiffany Giese. The Phoenix didn't score again for the remainder of the game, but solid pitching from King held the Mastodons to just one run in the fourth and two runs in the sixth.
King (2-3) started in the circle and picked up the win for Green Bay. The right-hander went seven innings, giving up three runs, all of them earned, on seven hits, allowing one walk and striking out three.
At the plate, the Phoenix was led by Giese, who went 2-for-2 in the game with a walk and two RBIs. Saloun had a noteworthy game at the dish as well, going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Peters also helped out for Green Bay, going 1-for-2 with a double and two walks.
GAME NOTES
» Green Bay tied its highest-scoring inning of the season (6) in the first.
» Green Bay grabbed a 6-0 lead in the bottom half of the first and didn't surrender that lead for the remainder of the game.

GAME 2 | Green Bay 10, Purdue Fort Wayne 2
GB once again got out to an early lead in game two, putting up three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Peters' RBI double was the key hit in the frame.
The Mastodons failed to push any runs across before the Phoenix added an insurance run in the third inning.
Hailey Heckenlaible drove in
Jadin Justman, which brought the score to 4-0.
Purdue Fort Wayne narrowed Green Bay's lead to 4-1 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 7-1 in the fourth inning. The Phoenix recorded three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of
Becca Edwards.
The Mastodons fought back, closing the gap to 7-2 before Green Bay added three more runs in the fifth to push the lead to eight and finish the game.
Brittany
Baneck (4-7) started in the circle and picked up the win. The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on three hits, allowing five walks and striking out four.
Offensively, the Phoenix was paced by Peters, who went 2-for-2 in the game with two doubles, a walk, and an RBI. Curtin had a noteworthy effort as well, going 1-for-2 with a home run, a walk and an RBI. Justman also contributed for Green Bay, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a walk, and two RBIs.
