Green Bay Crushes Morehead State in Five Innings to Finish Weekend in Evansville

EVANSVILLE, Ind. --Green Bay received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Phoenix put 12 runs on the board and beat the Morehead State Eagles 12-1 Sunday in its final game at the UE Softball Invitational.

Senior Alicia Peters led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run, a walk and two RBIs. Sophomore Jadin Justman furnished a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Senior Tiffany Giese also contributed, going 2-for-3 for Green Bay with a double, a walk and two RBIs.

Senior Brittany Baneck (2-6) got the win for Green Bay (7-11). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out four.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Phoenix got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Justman came across to score the lone run of the inning for Green Bay and get them on the board.

The Phoenix then held the Eagles scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. The Green Bay offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run home run off the bat of Peters and a two-run double from junior Randi McKay, which brought the Phoenix lead to 7-0.

Morehead State narrowed Green Bay's lead to 7-1 before the Phoenix stretched the advantage to 9-1 in the third inning. The Phoenix scored twice, with one run coming across on Justman's single.

Green Bay held the Eagles without a run before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The three-run frame for the Phoenix was punctuated by a two-run single off the bat of Justman. bringing the Green Bay advantage to 12-1. The score remained 12-1 for the rest of the game, as the Phoenix coasted to the win.
