DETROIT, Mich. – The Green Bay softball team won their sixth straight game Saturday afternoon before dropping game three of their series against Detroit Mercy, 4-0.
GAME 1 | Green Bay 10, Detroit Mercy 0
The Phoenix jumped out in front with three solo home runs in the top of the first inning off of the bats of sophomore Samantha Saloun, sophomore Jadin Justman, and senior Alicia Peters.
The Phoenix then tacked on runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings, matching their first-inning output in the sixth with three more runs to take a 10-0 lead. Those three runs came across on a three-run homer from senior Aubrey Drohner that scored sophomore Daija Williams and senior Alyssa Brewer.
Freshman Abigail Gawlinski and sophomore Abby Freismuth combined to toss a shutout in game one.
Gawlinski (6-3) started and picked up the win for Green Bay, going five shutout innings while giving up three hits, walking one, and striking out two. Freismuth had a strong showing out of the bullpen as well, going one shutout inning, allowing one hit.
Offensively, the Phoenix were led by Justman, who went 3-for-3 on the day with a double, two home runs, and four RBIs. Saloun had a standout day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with two home runs and two RBIs. Drohner also helped out for Green Bay, putting together one hit in one trip to the plate with a home run, a walk, and three RBIs.

» Gawlinski and Freismuth combined to throw a four-hit shutout.
» The Phoenix had both Justman and Saloun smack multiple extra-base hits in the ballgame.
» Justman drove in four runs for Green Bay.
» Green Bay hitters left the yard six times in the ballgame.
» The Phoenix out-hit the Titans at a 13-4 clip.
» Green Bay went 2-for-5 (.400) with runners in scoring position.
» The Phoenix drew five walks from Detroit Mercy pitching.
» Detroit Mercy was led offensively by senior McKenna Tanguay, who went 1-for-3 with a double.
GAME 2 | Detroit Mercy 4, Green Bay 0
Green Bay was not able to notch a run against Detroit Mercy pitcher senior Liz Murphy in game two and fell 4-0 to the Titans.
Green Bay managed two chances with runners on third but ended the game 0-for-4 with runners in scoring position overall. The Phoenix last threatened with runners in scoring position in the fourth inning, when Peters and Justman were on second and third, but GB failed to bring them in.
Senior Lauren King (2-4) started and took the loss in the circle.
Senior Tiffany Giese led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame. Peters put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a double.
GAME NOTES
»The Titans out-hit the Phoenix 7-5.
» Giese was the only Phoenix on base multiple times.
» GB didn't draw any walks against Titans pitching in game two.
» Detroit Mercy was led offensively by senior Taryn Peru, who went 1-for-2 with a home run and two RBIs.
» Murphy led the Titans pitching staff, throwing seven shutout innings.
UP NEXT
Green Bay will return home for a mid-week doubleheader on Wednesday against St. Thomas. First pitch is set for noon against the Tommies. Next weekend the Phoenix will travel to Chicago and start a three-game set against UIC on Friday at 5 p.m.
