CURRENT HORIZON LEAGUE STANDINGS
LAST TIME OUT
The Phoenix is coming off of a 2-1 series win over UIC after taking the final game of the three-game set on Sunday, April 10, 3-1. The game was all tied at 1-1 going into the seventh inning when
Alicia Peters walked with the bases loaded before
Samantha Saloun scored on a wild pitch.
Brittany Baneck tossed all seven innings, improving to 8-7 on the season. She surrendered just three hits and one run, which came on a sacrifice fly to right by Tara McElligott in the third. Baneck walked two and struck out two.
SERIES HISTORY
Green Bay is 24-19 against the Penguins all-time. The Phoenix had YSU's number back when the teams first met, winning the first four contests by a combined score of 28-12. However, YSU has kept the series even since then, winning 19 of the last 39 games. The Penguins have won six of the last eight games, including three of four last season.
SCOUTING REPORT
Yazmine Romero paces the Penguin offense, leading the team in batting average (.389). The fifth-year outfielder is reaching base in at a .427 clip. Despite recording no home runs, she has driven in nine runs, walked six times, and also leads YSU with seven stolen bases. Megan Turner is another player to watch at the plate, smashing a team-leading six home runs. As a whole, the Penguins have five players who are hitting .280 or higher.
The Penguins pitching staff isn't waddling around this year, boasting three of the top 16 ERA leaders in the Horizon League. Sophie Howell (2.55 ERA) and Elle Buffenbarger (2.96 ERA) are third and fifth in the league, respectively. Buffenbarger has also recorded 14 wins, being one of just two pitchers alongside Oakland's Sydney Campbell to do so. The pair is right behind Green Bay's
Abigail Gawlinski (2.52 ERA), who is second in the league in ERA. Kohler can also wheel and deal, recording a 3.94 ERA in 53.1 innings worked. The trio has combined to surrender 114 earned runs in 261.2 innings (3.05 ERA).
HISTORY IN THE MAKING
Tiffany Giese is on the verge of breaking a record that hasn't been touched in nearly 15 years. The senior outfielder is currently tied with Jenna Woepse for career stolen bases (31), needing just one more to become the all-time leader. Woepse played on the team from 2005 to 2008. Previous to Woepse, Hailey Mohrfeld swiped 29 bases from 2012 to 2015. As a team, Green Bay is 46-56 on stolen bases, good for second in the Horizon League, while Giese is 17-18. Giese broke the single-season record for stolen bases on April 6 when she stole her 16th base of the season.
EFFICIENT EDWARDS
The primary first baseman for Green Bay,
Becca Edwards has shown consistency at the plate this season. Hitting .262 after 65 at-bats, the Bristol, Wisconsin native has a solid .908 OPS and is reaching base at a .400 clip. She's crushed three home runs and driven in 12 runs. Edwards doesn't strike out much, only doing so 12 times while walking 11 times. Her career batting average is currently .272.
POWERFUL PETERS
Alicia Peters has found a home with Green Bay this season. A graduate transfer from Buffalo, Peters has launched a team-leading eight home runs this season, just two away from tying the GB single-season record. She also leads the team in:

- On-base percentage (49.4-percent)
- Slugging percentage (81.8-percent)
- Doubles (7)
