INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Lauren King was dealing on Saturday, hurling a one-hit shutout to lead the Green Bay softball team to a 3-0 win and series sweep over IUPUI.
Neither team scored until the fifth inning when the Phoenix got on the board with an RBI single from senior Tiffany Giese, scoring senior Crystal Guzman from second base.
The Phoenix then tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning on a two-run home run from Alicia Peters. It was Peters' 11th home run of the season, the most in a single season in Green Bay softball history.
Peters led the way offensively for the Phoenix, going 1-for-3 in the ballgame with a home run and two RBI. Giese put together a standout performance as well, going 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.
GAME NOTES
» King struck out three batters while issuing no walks.
» Giese was the only Phoenix with multiple base hits, compiling three in the game.
» The Phoenix out-hit the Jaguars at a 6-1 clip.
» IUPUI was led offensively by sophomore Jaylin Calvert, who went 1-for-2.
» Sophomore Madison Bryant led the Jaguars pitching staff, throwing seven innings of three-run ball.
WHAT'S NEXT
Green Bay will wrap up their road trip with a Tuesday doubleheader at St.Thomas starting at 2 p.m. Following, they'll close the regular season with a three-game series against Oakland at King Park. The series starts with Friday doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
