YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio –The Green Bay softball team got their first postseason win since the 2015 season Wednesday afternoon when they took down Robert Morris, 3-2.
Robert Morris got on the board first, scoring one run in the third inning on a blooper from Taylor Rhinehart.
The Phoenix offense was held in check until the fifth inning when it exploded for three runs. The first two of the three came on a two-RBI double from sophomore Samantha Saloun, with the other coming on an RBI single from sophomore Jadin Justman.
Robert Morris rallied in the sixth, bringing home their second run and later loading the bases with just one out. Senior Brittany Baneck, who started in the circle for Green Bay, slammed the door shut on the Colonials' offense, striking out Rachael Rhinehart before forcing Alaina Koutsogiani to fly out to center and strand the bases loaded.
Baneck (12-10) went seven innings, giving up two runs, both of them earned, on seven hits, allowing two walks, and striking out six.
At the plate, the Phoenix were led by Saloun, who went 2-for-4 on the day with a double and two RBI. Sophomore Katie Joten put together a noteworthy effort as well, going 2-for-4. Justman was also clutch at the plate, driving home Green Bay's third run in the fifth inning.
