Green Bay Men's Basketball Adds Clarence Cummings III and Zae Blake

GREEN BAY, Wis. – Friday afternoon the Green Bay men's basketball program and head coach Will Ryan announced new additions to the 2022-23 roster, Clarence Cummings III and Zae Blake.

Cummings, a native of Orlando, Fla., will join the Phoenix after spending several seasons at the State College of Florida. This past season as a redshirt sophomore, he averaged 11.5 points per game while starting 29 of the Manatees' 30 games. The wing shot 40.7-percent from the field, 31.9-percent from three and 74.0-percent from the charity stripe. Cummings was a versitale piece for the Manatees, also averaging 6.0 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game. At the conclusion of his strong sophomore campaign he was named First-Team All-Southern Conference.

"We are thrilled with the addition of Clarence to our program," Ryan said. "Clarence is a strong, athletic, and extremely versatile wing/forward. On the offensive end of the floor, he does a little bit of everything well which enables him to play multiple positions and cause mismatches. Defensively he flat-out competes with a high motor and can guard 1-5 if need be. Clarence's energy, toughness, and winning mentality will be a huge boost to our program."

"I chose Green Bay because they were one of the first Division I schools to take an interest in me," Cummings said. "The program seems like a place that I can grow as a basketball player and a person."

"We are also super excited to welcome Zae into our program," Ryan added. "Zae is an extremely quick, athletic and dynamic point guard who knows when to score and when to facilitate. Zae is what you want in a point guard because he orchestrates the offense and loves making his teammates better. His ability to use his quickness to get in the paint and score or set-up a teammate is a much-needed addition to our offense. Defensively, he will be a huge asset by using his length and quickness to disrupt on the ball and in passing lanes."

Zae Blake will join the Phoenix after spending two seasons at Southwest Mississippi Community College in Summit, Mississippi. Blake started 21 of the Bears' 25 games and averaged 12.8 points per game. The sophomore from Washington, D.C. shot 38.9-percent from the field, 32.7-percent from three and was solid at the free throw line, converting 82.9-percent of the time. Before he began his collegiate career, he set a team record for most three-pointers in a game (11) at Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia and was named the team's Most Outstanding Player as a senior.

"I chose Green Bay because I feel that the basketball program is the best fit for me as an athlete," Blake said. "The university also showed love and care not only for my future as an athlete, but also my academic career."

Cummings and Blake join Garren Davis, Amari Jedkins, and Donavan Short as Phoenix newcomers.
